2023 ANNUAL D.C. DANCE IMPROVISATION FESTIVAL is a day-long event of master dance classes, creative gathering, and a social event taking place on Sunday, November 12, 2023, from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM at the Atlas Performing Arts Center – Lab 1.
The festival is sponsored by the ICONS Choreographic Institute at the ATLAS and includes three master classes back-to-back – Contact Improvisation, Improvisational Technologies, and Underscore Ensemble Improvisation. The total festival fee is $45.00 for all three master classes. Join us to explore, create, and discover – all day long! Space is limited – register soon!

TEACHING ARTISTS
Katie Harris Banks is a professional dance artist based in DC.  She’s danced with Starr Foster Dance Project (VA), Laura Peterson Choreography (NYC), Kate Weare Company (NYC), Christopher Hutchings (NYC), Daniel Burkholder/The Playground (DC), Sharon Mansur/mansurdance (DC), Katie Sopoci Drake (DC), Uprooted Dance (DC), as well as other collaborations.  Over the years, improvisation has become the core of Katie’s movement and teaching style, and she’s happy to be exploring it with you today.  

 

Vladimir Angelov is a renowned professional choreographer, educator, and author with an extensive career and experience.  Currently, he is the Executive Director and Founder of the International Consortium for Advancement in Choreography – Dance ICONS, Inc. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ken Manheimer has studied Contact Improvisation, the Underscore, and Authentic movement with many central teachers, including Nancy Stark Smith, Andrew Harwood, and Sue Schell. He has taught on many occasions and has performed over several years with local choreographer Nancy Havlik’s dance performance group. Ken also is the long-standing coordinator of the DC Sunday CI Jam and helps to organize the Spring East Coast Jam retreat.
