Everything’s coming up…Sheldon? Born at the start of the baby boom in postwar Brooklyn, Sheldon Feldman always obeyed his mother. He tried to please his wife. But after seventy-some years playing it safe, small, closeted and quiet, it’s Sheldon’s turn and he’s ready to sing out.
“Sheldon Feldman Sings the Songs They Told Me Not to Sing” is an interactive musical theater cabaret from a tone-deaf septuagenarian urging us all to take center stage in our own lives, and never look back.
Created and performed by Shawn Shafner.
Directed by Stanley Bahorek.
Shawn Shafner, a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and activist, presents an interactive cabaret performance imagining Sheldon Feldman, who finally finds his voice and his way out of the closet after decades of keeping quiet and playing it safe.
Through music, storytelling, and a little audience participation, “Sheldon Feldman…” serves as both a tribute to underrepresented queer histories and a call to live authentically in the present moment.
