YOU CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN
Contributions from friends like you support every element of what makes the Atlas thrive. Our mission is to bring people together through the arts to expand the reach and strengthen the bonds of our community. We provide shared space in a creative environment that inspires exceptional performances, events, and initiatives that enlighten, entertain, and reflect the best of the arts and our humanity. Your general operating support goes a long way. You can also designate to a specific program by using the menu to the left.
MAKE AN IMPACT YOUR WAY
Our Atlas Presents series connects audiences to diverse and engaging contemporary music from jazz and world sounds. We present film in honor of our heritage including features, documentaries and silent films with live musical accompaniment. Your donation will directly impact art making, helping to offset artist fees and production costs for all Atlas Presents initiatives and presentations.
The Atlas INTERSECTIONS Festival is a performing arts festival that presents work that impacts our society, culture, and world by informing, inspiring, educating, and entertaining. INTERSECTIONS is about presenting excellent art that inspires a connected community, engages artists and audiences alike, and creates a vibrant neighborhood, city, and world. We are interested in unique perspectives and art that connect us to the many facets of our humanity. The Atlas Intersections Festival presents artists that look to explore the ideas and issues of our time through their work. Learn more about Intersections.
City at Peace is a youth development program rooted in social justice for teens and young adults ages 14-24, which provides a safe, collaborative and nurturing space outside of school and other environments where they can examine issues and conditions that divide them. City at Peace uses performing arts as a learning tool to develop skills in dance, theatre, voice and stage production, as well as skills in conflict resolution, personal storytelling, empathy, understanding, and leadership. Your donation helps to offset scholarships for our youth, artist fees for teachers, costumes, set pieces, supplies, and programming fees needed to administer our programming. Learn more about the City at Peace program.
Arts for Young Audiences is where our family-based programming brings insightful and entertaining performances to our stages for youth and families alike. Arts for Young Audiences is an important part of our family programming at the Atlas. Shows are dramatically unique and are offered throughout the season. Each year, we partner with the DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative to provide field trips for free to thousands of DC Public School and DC Public Charter School children. We celebrate Arts for Young Audiences through our Family Fun Days programming during our annual Intersections Festival. Your donation will directly impact art making, helping to offset artist fees and production costs for all Arts for Young Audiences initiatives and presentations, as well as provide free tickets for field trips to children in our participating DC Public Schools and DC Public Charter Schools.
Atlas Arts Lab is a program of the Atlas Performing Arts Center that provides a platform for individual artists to develop new work and to serve the community through engagement initiatives that encourage civic dialogue and community cohesion. The program facilitates artistic growth and development for artists whose work explores the ideas and issues of our time. The Atlas Arts Lab prioritizes artists that act as change agents for the betterment of our society, culture, and world.

Savvy ways to give to support the Atlas Performing Arts Center!
Save up to 70% in taxes with stock gifts!
Did you know that gifts of stock can give your family a big tax benefit even in a fluctuating market? Many donors are surprised to learn that you can save over 70% in taxes by making a gift of appreciated stock. Gifting stock presents a great opportunity to have a large impact on non-profit organizations such as Atlas Performing Arts Center and “costs” you less because of the tax savings. Non-profits receive the full value of the stock, while the donor avoids paying federal and local capital gains tax and receives the charitable tax deduction. To find out more, please contact Hannah Church, Director of Development and Communications, development@atlasarts.org.
Many donors are taking advantage of the QCD!
If you have a traditional IRA and are age 70½ or older, you can consider a special tax benefit available with your account: giving up to $105,000 of Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) in 2024 to operating charities (excluding donor-advised funds) tax-free.* While withdrawals from traditional IRAs are taxable income, QCDs are not and can satisfy some or all of your annual required minimum distribution (RMD) if you’re age 73 or older. QCDs can also be used whether you take the standard deduction or itemize deductions but note that you cannot claim a tax deduction for a QCD.
While you are thinking about your retirement plans, consider naming your favorite organizations as ultimate beneficiaries as well. Make sure you request any transfers by mid-December this year as so many transfers are being requested and financial organizations require time to process. A QCD has to be cashed (not postmarked) by the organization by December 31 for it to count in 2024.
Get more tax advantages by gifting through a DAF!
A gift from a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) will not only support the Atlas Performing Arts Center, but it will also benefit you! Reduce taxable income. Reduce capital gains taxes. Lower estate tax.
Other ways to help!
We know that many people are struggling right now. For those who are not able to give this year but would like to support Atlas Performing Arts Center in a way that doesn’t cost you now, please consider including Atlas Performing Arts Center with a gift in your will or designating Atlas Performing Arts Center as a beneficiary in your retirement plan, life insurance or donor advised fund. A beneficiary designation is easy, can save your heirs over 60% in taxes, and costs nothing now. To find out more, please contact Hannah Church, Director of Development and Communications, development@atlasarts.org.

* The annual deduction limit for gifts to public charities, including donor-advised funds, is up to 30% of adjusted gross income (AGI) for donations of non-cash assets held longer than one year and up to 60% of AGI for donations of cash. If your 2024 charitable deduction amount exceeds these AGI limits, you may carry the excess amount forward up to five additional tax years, subject to AGI limits each year.
** For 2024, the standard deduction amount is $14,600 for single filers and $29,200 for married couples filing jointly.
We encourage you to discuss your philanthropic goals and explore potential giving strategies for 2024 with financial, tax, or legal advisors.
