Now entering its second year, Show In A Bag offers an opportunity for DC area performing artists to create a solo show with dramaturgy from Solas Nua and Dublin’s Fishamble: The New Play Company. This program reimagines the financial theatre producing model, putting artists in control of their own work, while focusing on the essential art of storytelling. Over six months, the Show in a Bag program offers performers support to develop a solo script that they can perform anywhere. This year’s edition has three artists who will be presenting a work-in-progress reading of their solo shows.

DANI STOLLER
Stuffed or Tomorrow I Will Be Perfect is a story of food, finances, and fornication. An exploration of one woman’s journey to heal her addictive behaviors and find a way to feel whole by letting herself feel empty.

LILLI HOKOMA
This work‑in‑progress solo reverie drifts through the luminous and shadowed landscapes of Lilli’s hair—where pride and shame coil together like strands of memory. Drawing on the first time she fell in love with Twelfth Night as a new-to-underarm-hair-3rd-grader, to her revamp from pandemic gender journey experience playing Viola, the vignettes explore gender as performance. As Lilli wanders from Olivia’s sultry poise to Viola’s stumbling courage, she traces the wild, “hairy” pathways in between: the places where identity is thrust upon us and the moments we choose to forge our own path in the dazzling experience of becoming.

MILO LONGENECKER
Dance Yrself Clean, 1518 is a play with dance exploring the anomalous choreomania of 1518 and its relationship to communal ecstatic movement today. WIll the ghosts of medieval Strasbourg’s dancing plague remain firmly lodged in the past? Or collide with our living bodies in the present, revealing an intrinsic embodied wisdom with the potential to set all convened spirits free?
