galax movement duo invites you to an evening of dance and film featuring other members of the DMV dance community! For one night only, experience the different relationships of humanity through movement and art.

“duality” is a showcase of duet performances from contemporary artists including Gaby Milazzo, Alex McGriff, Corina Dalzell, Elan Robinson, Sydney Goldston, Angel Ramirez, and Elvis Navarro. Each duet tells its own story including tales of tenderness, animosity, loss, and whimsy. Be prepared to live through an array of emotions as the community shares their history.

Gaby Milazzo and Alex McGriff, founders of galax movement duo, will be restaging “distortion #”, a work that dives into body dysmorphia with inspirations from André Kertész’s Distortion photographs. Within the work, they embody the inner voice that picks and prods at flaws that one has to battle to silence. In addition, they will debut a new experimental dance film about a walk in nature that leads to a psychotic trip.

The friends of galax movement duo are reviving repertoire that will draw you in and welcome you to reflect, ask questions, and identify with the messaging. Corina Dalzell’s “A Little Lost” explores falling out of step within a relationship with music from Tom Waits. The duet between Elan Robinson and Sydney Goldston, “held then poured”, comments on the joy of community and how the support of others can inspire movement. Angel Ramirez and Elvis Navarro bring a personal story about the fears of being ripped away from loved ones in the current political climate with “What If I Never Saw You Again?”.

Come engage in community, share history, and learn about the relationships that make up the human experience.

galax movement duo is an unconventional contemporary dance troupe originated by Gaby Milazzo and Alex McGriff. The two joined forces in 2022 and had their first work debut in the summer of 2024.

Gabriella “Gaby” Milazzo is a first generation Venezuelan artist with a BFA in Dance from the University of Florida. She began her dance artistry and training early after her family migrated to South Florida in 2003. In her youth, she attended Bak Middle School of the Arts, majoring in dance, before attending G-Star School of the Arts with a focus in film. She quickly fell in love with being able to combine her two passions, dance and film. During the quarantine of the 2020 pandemic, she was able to easily transition to a digital format to replace live performance opportunities. In this time, she made multiple dance film projects, including “9 2 5”, a film about the physical and mental effects of office work life, in collaboration with Blair Barrios Batista. Milazzo now works at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, a non-profit in Washington, DC. At the Atlas, she continues to outreach, network, and build her arts and production community. She has danced both voluntarily and contractually with local choreographers. Within galax movement duo, Milazzo continues to use her love of film to introduce new ideas to their dance projects.

Alexandra “Alex” McGriff was also raised in the south, spending most of her time dancing in the wiregrass area. Her professional career began with Alabama Dance Works (ADW) at age 17, where she performed, taught, and choreographed award-winning routines for the company. She went on to perform for multiple festivals and dance incubators – her talents highlighted at Jazz on Tap, The Alabama Dance Festival, The Impact Project, The Catharsis Series, Dance Canvas DC, and as a guest artist with Troy University. During spring 2024, she traveled to Atlanta Georgia, receiving a double feature in Madeline Maxine Roman’s stage piece ” Artificial Eden” and Destiny Arlette Cooke’s filmed work, “SHEEP,” for Dance Canvas’ Choreography Initiative and Filmmaking Premieres. McGriff is known for her strength and skillset in dance acrobatics. She holds certifications in Acrobatic Arts Module 1 and Alixa Flexibility Modules 1-3, extending her knowledge in youth classes and competition teams, and as a guest artist under GRIDLOCK Dance. When not teaching, Alexandra performs with DC-based company, GRIDLOCK Dance, and Virginia-Based company, Artelnmovimento, serving as member and collaborator to their respective works.

galax movement duo’s debut live work, “ser mujer”, was presented at the Dance Canvas Festival in June of 2024, in Bethesda, Maryland. Their latest work, “distortion #”, was in collaboration with Corina Dalzell and was presented at the inaugural GRIDLOCK Motion Mixer in January of 2025 in Washington, DC. galax movement duo continues to put themselves out there in the hopes that their dance works allow audience members to lean in and be curious as to what will happen next.
