In the war-torn city of Thebes, Antigone is resolved to defy her uncle King Kreon’s edict. Her brothers have killed each other in battle, and Kreon, labeling one a traitor, forbids his burial. As Thebes’ citizens cower, ignoring prophecies and divine will, Antigone’s act of defiance meets headlong with the stubbornness and poor judgement of a fragile King. In a city desperate for peace, who pays the price for pride and obstinance?
In this razor sharp, modern translation by Anne Carson, Antigone comes alive with urgency and passion. A riveting tale that still speaks to our deepest questions about authority, loyalty, and justice, this play asks:
What happens when you forget the world is watching?
Antigone is presented by special arrangement with Paradigm Talent Agency LLC and is made possible in part by a grant from the Center for Helenic Studies.
