WORKSHOP TYPE: Theatre, New Work (Reading & Roundtable)
TITLE: Riot Brrrain

SYNOPSIS: Teddy has neurosyphilis — oops! To track down the culprit who passed the pox, they embark on an epic punk-filled journey through their past. Riot Brrrain was first presented at the 2018 Capital Fringe Festival.
DESCRIPTION OF SESSION: Following a reading of Riot Brrrain, the creative team and field-specific guests will engage with participants around the themes presented in the play: mental health, sexuality and gender.  
MEET THE ARTISTS
Caitlin M Caplinger (they/them) is a playwright and practitioner based in Washington, DC. Through their writing and arts administration, they aim to facilitate the production and consumption of empathetic, intimate, and necessarily disquieting art. Regionally they have written and directed for Nextstop Theatre Company, Artstream, Inc. and Nu Drafts at Nu Sass. They have self-produced through Capital Fringe (Riot Brrrain, 2018), Initiative Theatre and The Improvocateurs, an all-female comedy troupe they co-founded. Caplinger’s theatre is irreverent, philosophical, absurd, subversive and poignant. Caplinger received their B.A. in Fine and Performing Arts in Arts Administration (Theatre) and Leadership Studies from Christopher Newport University. caitlincaplinger.com
Sarah Pultz is a Theatre Practitioner stationed in Washington, D.C. She is mainly a Freelance Dramaturg with an interest in developing new works. In addition to her work as a dramaturg, she is a musician and composer, an aspiring playwright, and a performer with a background in acting, singing, and dancing. Sarah attended Christopher Newport University where she received her B.A in Musical Theatre and Political Science. She then went on to obtain an M.A. in Theatre Criticism and Dramaturgy from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London, England.
Natasha Janfaza is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and composer. Originally a classically trained violinist, she picked up guitar and started the punk band Panini Girlfriend. Janfaza has also toured solo, notably having opened for The Messthetics (ex-Fugazi). She is a recent graduate of Georgetown University with degrees in American Musical Culture and Linguistics, and was the recipient of the Kircher Medal in Music. Her thesis was titled, “The Implications of the Sonorous Envelope for Female Power.
