Shame (With Comments from the Populace)

A Workshop Production
By Einat Weizman and Morad Hassan
Directed by John Vreeke | Adapted by Ari Roth
Featuring Colleen Delany and Lynette Rathnam
A blistering documentary portrait of the challenges facing Israelis and Palestinians who decide to work together against formidable opposition. Centering on the testimonies of the two actors who worked on the embattled world premiere of The Return in Haifa (which ran at Mosaic in 2017) and other recent controversies, Shame integrates performance excerpts, Facebook messages, tweets, and telephoned threats into a provocative theatrical interrogation of censorship, loyalty, intimidation, and resistance.

“Succeeds in creating a shared space where Jewish Israeli and Palestinian citizens and theatre spectators can pay attention profoundly to what’s happening in their society and are probed to give attention to address issues that are often suppressed.” — Contemporary Art Practices in the Middle East
