French pianist and composer Cedric Hanriot joins forces with American trumpeter Jason Palmer featuring an all-star cast of musicians in saxophonist Donny McCaslin, bassist Michael Janisch and drummer Clarence Penn in a musical homage to the work of science fiction writer Dan Simmons. Hanriot and Palmer have composed a suite of three movements using seven distinct melodies based on the famed ‘7 modes of limited transportation’ created by influential French composer Olivier Messiaen to translate Simmon’s stories into original and improvisational music.
This performance features Riffin’: CapitalBop Listening Sessions at the Atlas, a jazz conversation series.
Hosted by CapitalBop’s Giovanni Russonello and Luke Stewart, selected Jazz at the Atlas performances feature a multi-media, pre-show conversation between jazz fans and jazz artists. Before the show, ask the artist questions, and learn about their own artistic inspirations and aspirations and grow a new-found appreciation for the jazz genre.
